Bishop McKee: April 29, 2017: In Response to Judicial Council Decision re: Bishop Oliveto

May 1, 2017

Bishop McKee letterhead

April 29, 2017

On Friday evening, the Judicial Council issued its decision on the election, consecration, and assignment of Karen Oliveto as a Bishop of The United Methodist Church. Bishop Bruce Ough, President of the Council of Bishops, has released a statement regarding this decision and the continuing work of the Council of Bishops and the Commission on a Way Forward. You can read the statement here: President of the Council of Bishops Statement regarding Judicial Council Decision.

The Council of Bishops is meeting in Dallas this week, and I will release a statement following our meeting and our work on the Commission on a Way Forward.

Please read Bishop Ough’s statement and continue to pray for the work of the Commission and the Council of Bishops. While we are not of one mind regarding The United Methodist Church’s position on human sexuality, we continue to welcome and treat all persons as beloved children of God.

May God bless your ministry and The United Methodist Church.

Peace,

Bishop Michael McKee

President of the Council of Bishops: Statement regarding Judicial Council decision 1341

1 John 4:16

So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.
