Lake Cities UMC Associate Pastor

Associate Pastor’s Blog

Pastor Katie is a longtime Dentonite, moving to the area when she was in elementary school. Her family attended Blue Mound UMC in Denton. She was active as a young person in lay speaking becoming a Certified Lay Speaker at the age of 13. She then began serving as a youth sponsor until she worked up to become a Youth Director. Eventually Katie finally answered God’s call to ministry and graduated from Brite Divinity at TCU.

Katie met and married her husband Aaron through church. Aaron was born and raised in Denton. Aaron is a retired NAVY Senior Chief. He currently works as an electro-machinist at the Federal Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Together Aaron and Katie have two sons — Hunter, a NAVY MA3, and Jacob, a senior at DHS.

When not at Lake Cities UMC, you can find Katie working at Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home as the full-time Chaplain of the campus.

Katie loves the adventure of life and can rarely be found without a smile on her face. Tutus and stickers win her heart to be your forever best friend. Katie has rarely met a dog she doesn’t love and currently has 3 (she’s down from the 5 she normally has). She can’t turn away an animal in need (which is why she also has 5 cats and a bird). She is waiting for a unicorn or a goat in pajamas to join her family (or a sloth or a hippo).

Katie’s ministry passion is for the “nones,” “misfits,” the “others.” She will often get lost in the conversations of how God intercedes in life. Don’t be fooled — she isn’t what most people think of in pastoral ministry. Rumor has it she has been called a “tattooed biker lady preacher,” a title she holds with laughter and honor.

Text, email or stop by for a visit (know that she is easily distracted by shiny objects).
