Persistent in Love

Based on Luke 18:1–8

Jesus told a story about a persistent widow who refused to give up. Day after day, she came before a judge, pleading for justice. Eventually, even the unjust judge gave in, not because he cared about righteousness, but because she simply wouldn’t quit. Jesus used her persistence as a picture of faith that doesn’t lose heart, a faith that keeps praying, hoping, and believing even when it seems nothing is changing.

That same persistence is what love requires, especially in our families.

There are days when loving the people closest to us feels easy, when laughter fills the room, when we see the best in one another. But there are other days when love feels like work. When disappointment, frustration, or misunderstanding cloud the connection. When words hurt. When choices wound. When it would be easier to step back and stay silent.

That’s when love must be persistent.

I’ve decided I will never give up loving anyone in my family. I might not always love what they do, but I will always love them. I’ll keep showing up, keep forgiving, keep praying, and keep believing that love still has power to heal and restore. Because that’s what Jesus does for me.

God’s love is not conditional. It doesn’t withdraw when we make mistakes or stop showing up when we fall short. It’s persistent, steady, and stubbornly hopeful. The same love that chased me down now calls me to keep loving others with that same endurance.

So even when things get messy, I’ll choose to love. I’ll speak gently, even when I’m angry. I’ll forgive, even when I don’t feel like it. I’ll hold on to hope, even when I can’t see the results.

Because love that persists is love that reflects the heart of God.

Reflection:
Who in your life is God calling you to love persistently right now?
Pray for the strength to love as Jesus loves which is steadfast, patient, and unrelenting.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for never giving up on me. Teach me to love my family with that same persistence. Help me to keep showing up, keep forgiving, and keep believing that Your love can bring healing where it’s needed most. Amen.
